VR games and the Elderly?
Lately, there has been a trend with VR (virtual reality) games, but can he elderly also enjoy these games?
I do believe most of the population as heard of VR games, however doesn`t the game image feel directed towards a younger audience?
But! In August of 2017 a senior citizens home in Södertälje Municipality in Sweden got to try out a pilot VR game in connection to a new project the Södertälje Municipality had launched.
The project target audience for those no longer can leave the senior citizens home.
The goal with the project is to bring e.g. the zoo to the senior citizens home with the help of VR.
The project is still in the works. There is also a possibility for motion sickness, but this means that the VR film need to be adapted to individual.
The test audience’s opinion and impression was only positive (information based from an article published computersweden (2017.8.29).
After I read this article, I did feel that it would be a great opportunity for those living in a senior citizens home if VR got implicated in the future.
As the situation is looking right now, we can`t bring the zoo the senior citizens home but with VR we can bring the zoo to them.
With this all the things that they can enjoy will only increase.
Even when you get older there is a lot of things that you can still do/enjoy, right?
The establishment manager once told me something that I will never forget, and it will always stick with me :
“Because they are seniors, they can´t do it. those are the words I dislike the most”.
With this way of thinking I will continue to do everything I can to change the world of welfare.
What is your opinion on this? Does VR games have a place in a senior citizens home? Please write your opinion in the comment section.
